(AhlulBayt News Agency) - In yet another example of direct intervention in the Middle East countries' internal affairs, Defense Secretary Liam Fox warned regional countries that their relations with Iran could render US-led sanctions against the Islamic Republic ineffective.
Fox boasted that if Israel could make peace with the Palestinians it would help isolate Iran.
"The United Kingdom is pushing for stronger sanctions to influence Iran, but the importance of the Middle East peace process should not be overlooked," Fox told the Herzliya Conference.
"Progress towards a two-state solution -- a secure and universally recognized Israel alongside a viable and contiguous Palestinian state -- is important for defusing the malign political influence of Iran in the region", said the British defense secretary.
The British officials are embarking on emergency tour of the Middle East region amid a revolutionary tide, which is sweeping the Arab countries.
They are openly discussing their concerns that the uprisings could spread from Tunisia and Egypt to other nations in the region, threatening the interests of the Western bullies.
The UK intervention in the region's domestic affairs comes at a time when the Egyptian people are intensifying their presence on the streets 16 days after they first congregated in the Cairo's Tahrir Square calling for the dictator Hosni Mubarak to step down.
Britain was alarmed when the Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution, Imam Khamenei described the Egyptians and Tunisians' revolutions as the result of a tide of Islamic awakening which is spreading across the oppressed nations.
Liam Fox claimed that the developments in the Middle East could directly affect Britain's national security!
"What happens here can have a direct impact on the national security of the United Kingdom -- our prosperity and the safety of our citizens," he boasted.
And, he drew the conclusion that Iran should be undermined.
"For sanctions to work, regional powers and neighbors need to make sure they are not used by Iran to help it avoid or water down the impact of economic sanctions," Fox said.
Meanwhile, Britain's foreign secretary William Hague says the Middle East peace process is in danger of falling victim to the revolutionary tide sweeping the Arab nations.
"Amidst the opportunity for countries like Tunisia and Egypt, there is a legitimate fear that the Middle East peace process will lose further momentum and be put to one side, and will be a casualty of uncertainty in the region", Hague told The Times in an interview en route to Jordan.
Hague advised the Israeli authorities to avoid talking “belligerent language” at a time of widespread uprisings and work towards reviving the stalled peace process.
This is while that in Egypt, the country's main opposition party Muslim Brotherhood has said president Mubarak's support for Israeli regime is one of the main reasons behind the nation-wide protests.
